Artist Biography

“Lenelle Moïse’s music...has a beat that gets under your skin, fascinating rhythm, and a real theatrical power.” -Backstage

"Jazz, hip-hop, poetry, pop rock...powerhouse singing." -Curtain Up

"Armed only with their phenomenal voices and a JamMan loop machine, Moïse and Mosley perform Expatriate’s electrifying original musical score. Moïse’s sensual, velvety timbre is a sublime counterpart to Mosley’s glorious soprano, and her composition is hauntingly beautiful." -Go Magazine

THE EXPATRIATE AMPLIFICATION PROJECT is a sultry sonic map, stretching across the jazz, soul, urban, pop and neofunk genres. Poet and composer, Lenelle Moïse, created 14 songs with two loop machines, experimenting with vocal percussion, rolling trills, mouth-made clicks, high-pitched squeaks, melody, harmony and breath. The result was a rich new sound. Moïse’s smoky contralto joins forces with Karla Mosley’s winged soprano to sing playfully poly-rhythmic, sensual and politically-conscious music. Originally written for Moïse’s critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway play Expatriate, the lyrics explore themes of homeland, love, sexual tension, addiction, survival, flight and freedom. Conjuring Nina Simone, Zap Mama and the french pop sensation Camille, The Expatriate Amplification Project is a distinct and dynamic offering of bluesy ballads, scorching torch songs and shoulder-pumping, heartbeat-driven duets.

Earth meets fire meets electric air and spins ma spirit
by Pan Morigan
The two singers voices, lively, gorgeous, multiplied through the masterful use of loops, repetitions, improvisational runs, grooves, and textural play, weave melody on melody, ideas snappin' and flowin'. This music beyond music makes my heart tremble and my feet find new ways to express I'M INSPIRED - while delicious and achingly beautiful lyrics beguile my mind. Buy it, love it, share it. Find joy and challenge and a head-full-a sweet deep moods!
