Deep in the heart of Music City hails a group of ruffians shaping an alternative country sound quite a bit different than the status quo. Dixie Whiskey is the name, pushing the envelope of today’s country is the game. Formed in the summer of 2007 out of the long-standing friendship of Jon Decious, Bob Ferrari, and Dillon Napier, this country outfit’s origin was simple: to give their competitive, oversaturated city the music it deserves. Sure, you can throw a rock and hit a country band anywhere you stand in Nashville, but Dixie Whiskey is one of a kind. It’s a thick underlying influence of the swampiest Rolling Stones material with the swagger of country outlaws like Willie, Waylon, and Cash, presented with the edge of a dive bar punk band, and there you have Dixie Whiskey.
The guys headed into the studio prior to even playing their first show to record their debut EP entitled ‘Honky Dory’. Enlisting the help of Nashville singer/songwriter Caitlin Rose to sing harmonies on the disc, Rose quickly fell in love with the songs and demanded to be a permanent member of the group. The self-released ‘Honky Dory’ received rave reviews around town. The Nashville Scene claimed it as one of the Top Ten Local Releases of 2007, stating “Their eight-song debut dishes out a haggard-and-hell-bent collection of whiskey-stained low-life anthems with enough swagger and twang to kill a man, and enough "rawk" to juice him back to life.”
The band has been gigging around the southeast, writing songs and hitting the studio from time to time along the way. According to the band, the future entails writing the best songs and playing the best shows possible. If the band keeps riding the momentum of their breakthrough year, the sky is surely the limit.
