Second Wind plays a variety of musical styles. Their bluegrass tunes are not typical bluegrass, but a modern version that the band has dubbed "punkgrass." There are four members of the band. Joel plays guitar, Bree plays violin and guitar, Mary plays bass, and Travis plays the mandolin and banjo. Travis is the winner of the 2003 mandolin contest at the National Fingerpicking Championships in Winfield, KS. The band plays mostly original tunes, written by Joel and Mary, or Bree.
