Casey Hurt is a complicated man singing songs from a simpler time. His blend of Americana, soul and folk make for a nakedly honest songwriting style that creates a completely enveloping live experience. The richness in his songs revel the honest emotions that most of us keep hidden, and that lesser song writers would shy away from.
Hurt won the Alchemist Magazine's award for best acoustic performer of 2008 in Corvallis Oregon, the 5th smartest city in the US as ranked by Forbes Magazine. His music stretches across genres and communities, from creating hip-hop beats for friends in LA, to regular acoustic appearances at Saturday Markets and cafes, as well as touring the West Coast.
Transparent and honest, his new album “Letters from a Friend” harmonizes the many seemingly dissonant facets of life. There is an intimacy in anything that one would sing or write to a friend, and all the songs on Hurt's debut album are meant to be read as letters.
Throughout it all, Hurt is sure to not lose his focus. He writes songs about ups and downs, trials and tribulations, keeping it all within the bounds that people can connect to. These days Casey works behind the bar at a local pub and his wife, Lauren Hurt, is a photographer.
