Lynn Hollyfield has been performing in the Washington DC area for the past two decades. Her roots are from New York where she started playing guitar at the age of 10 and began performing in her late teens. She is branching out on her own with the release her first solo recording, Layers. Layers is a collection of mostly original songs set in tasteful arrangements varying from guitar and voice to more filled out settings with vocal harmonies by Grace Griffith and a varied array of musical guests including Brian Simms, Steve Wolf, Dan Schwartz, Diana McFadden, Nina Spruill, Jeff Harding, Jimmy Brink and producer Marco Delmar. Two songs are a collaborative effort in which Lynn weaves melody and music to the extraordinary poetry of writer, Carol Burbank. Hollyfield's interpretation of Julie Miller's, Broken Things and the Jazz Classic, Dream a Little Dream of Me, demonstrates the artists versatility as a singer and performer.
Lynn Hollyfield's original songs have well-crafted melodies, stand-alone lyrics and striking emotional depth. Her songwriting is truly outstanding, and stands up well if compared to the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Rosanne Cash, and the best of today’s contemporary songwriters. Her influences stem from Neil Young, CSNY, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, John Hiatt and Al Petteway. But not only is Lynn adept at setting lyrics and melody to create refreshing and powerful songs—she is also an accomplished guitarist and an uncommonly versatile and passionate singer with an ear for harmony. Her songwriting has been acknowledged by placing as a finalist in several of the Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contests. Slipping Time and Blue & Green, were her first two recordings made as part of the duo “Hollyfield & Spruill,” which received multiple Wammie nominations (Washington Area Music Association Awards).
Recently, Lynn has been performing regularly with Washington, DC Icon, Grace Griffith. The new collaboration is yielding some truly exceptional music. Lynn@LynnHollyfield.com www.LynnHollyfield.com Layers
