Samantha T. Roden-Levy began writing poetry at the age of four. Her passion for poetry was fostered by adult audiences who were captivated by the complexity and depth of her inspirational sonnets at such a tender age. Samantha's poetry evolved throughout the years as she began to delve deeper into the root causes of social isolation, poverty, domestic violence, and racism. In November 2005, Samantha released her first book of critically acclaimed poetry entitled "The Illumination of My Soul." "The Essence of a Blessed Woman,” is Samantha's newest compilation of smooth, melodic, yet powerful spoken word poetry. The warm timbre of her voice will leave you breathless while she reaches into the depths of your soul. Samantha has been a featured poet and keynote speaker at Prairie View A & M University, Texas Southern University, Aldine Y.O.U.T.H Center, Peoples Politics, and countless other bookstores, community centers, organizations, television shows and literary events. Samantha T. Roden-Levy is also the resident Spoken Word Artist featured every Monday night on KWWJ: Gospel 1360. Samantha has received numerous accolades from government officials, prestigious African-American universities, and organizations for her dedication to the community. Her poetry is published in several different mediums including newspapers and web related news media. Samantha’s work was first anthologized in a University of Houston publication when she was just eleven years old. Samantha is a 2002 prestigious Red Rose Scholar recipient from the University Of Houston-Downtown, she is an advocate for domestic violence victims, and she was one of only a handful of Spoken Word Artists chosen to recite her poetry in an instructional DVD and CD for a poetry workshop in Austin, Texas. Her poetry readings are receiving newsworthy buzz around the country and throughout the world. Domestic violence, poverty, racism, spirituality, hope, and social isolation are the topics that she embraces in order to tear down the partition that separates the haves from the have-nots. Samantha has survived domestic abuse, social isolation, and sexual assault and her poetry is a reflection of her willingness to share her struggle with others. Her spoken word gets to the heart of the matter, for she is truly "The Essence of a Blessed Woman."
