Barbrah Kelley is a singer songwriter, lyricist and arranger who hail from Camden, New Jersey where talented artists are practically grown; it is also where she got her start. Music has always been a vital part of her life; singing in the choir at church is what kept her coming back. As a Worship leader Barbrah found that her passion for music was much more than just singing words to a song.
In the past, Barbrah worked as a session singer; recording commercials, voice-overs and demos for other artists. She toured with Top40, R&B bands and local gospel groups. She wanted to hone her skills so she returned to school to major in music. Barbrah co-wrote a single for ‘The Gap Band’ entitled “I’m Dreaming” and “We Bow Down” for a local group- ‘Perry Jenkins and The Lord’s Mercenaries’. Her voice can be heard on the movie soundtrack ‘The Cage’- singing “You Do Nothing For Me” which she also co-wrote with her husband Brian J Kelley.
Barbrah's style is very appealing- and while Traditional Gospel is her roots, her style crosses into Smooth Jazz and Urban/R&B as it settles into Contemporary and Inspirational genres with its strong message of hope and inspiration. It is the Gospel- It is Good News.
Barbrah listened to a mixture of music growing up and say her influences are too many to list, but she will always reach back to embrace those artist who inspired her, such artists like Phoebe Snow, Patti Austin,Roberta Flack, Lalah Hathaway,Vesta, Kim Burrell,Vanessa Bell-Armstrong, Vickie Winans, Maurette Brown-Clark, Oleta Adams, Cece Winans , Helen Baylor and so many others.
