Artist Biography

I WAS BORN TALKING…and began singing at age 5. This must have been true because my parents said so! Is it mere coincidence that one common translation for the name Devorah is “She Who Speaks”?

The following stats represent, with some measure of accuracy, a few possible truths about my life: I’m a towering 4’11 and ¾” 105 lb. brunette, full of heart, commitment, and humility.I was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and am still the youngest child in a family of terrifically talented musicians. My nickname is “The Firecracker,” and I like to dance until I drop, and sing like no one is listening.

Mom was a regionally known and highly respected improvisational, sight reading pianist. She was Beethoven, Scott Joplin, and McCoy Tyner rolled into one remarkable package. Her final words were for me to believe my dreams. "Believe in Your Dreams" was written in honor of her life, and was my first Billboard Song Contest award.

Dad was born in Hungary, and the family’s fifth generation of Cantors. I loved his soaring, glorious tenor as deeply as I treasured his sense of humor. He left a legacy of sacred Hebrew melodies that have undoubtedly influenced my singing, songwriting, and soul. I meticulously studied his chanting, and carry on a family tradition as cantorial soloist for the Jewish High Holy Days. That is the where and when of my formal music education….

ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Live...as in not edited on Wake Up with Al Roker....rode my bicycle solo from home to Jimmy Kimmel: 'ARTIST OF THE YEAR' 2008 from www.rocktheblues.com * Two Billboard Song Contest Awards “Believe in Your Dreams”, “Too Many Lovers” (have never been friends); * Colorado Folks Festival with Ani di Franco, Nancy Griffith, Ben Harper, and John Hiatt. * Guest vocalist for a David Foster Fundraiser. * Concert with Nashville's top writers: Kostas and Bernie Nelson; * Paul Overstreet (Scarlet Moon Music) song placement on a compilation album with Harlan Howard and Paul Overstreet. * Cheddar Cheese Music publishing contract for the song "Karla" from Sundog ‘Speak’ CD. * Radio ad voice over with legendary Pat O’Day. * Showcase performances at Nashville's prestigious Bluebird Café. * Airplay on Seattle’s KXRX with radio DJ Norman B. * Performed "Wake Up For the Children" at the Universal Peace Day Concert 2006 in NYC.

NOW THAT YOU KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME...I ASK YOU:WHAT IF: Not one person you know liked this music? Not one music critic you trust liked this music? Would you click ‘play’ and listen for yourself? No Peer Group, No Pundits, No Problem!!!!
