Artist Biography
 
Chris Alford is a creative versatile guitarist and composer that has performed in Mississippi juke joints as well as concert halls around the country. Equally adept at playing Bebop, Rock, Fusion, Free Improvisation or Gospel, his unique guitar voice has no stylistic bounds. Out of Here showcases Alford's warm guitar voice as well as his skillful composing in a modern jazz guitar trio setting. All the songs are originals. The disc features Memphis stalwarts Paul Taylor and Jonathan Wires. Alford earned music degrees from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois and Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. There he had the opportunity to study with Mike Smith, Henry Johnson, Regi Wooten, John McLean, and Chester Thompson. Alford has had the opportunity to perform with legends of jazz and popular music including: Cassandra Wilson, Donnie (Motown Records) 2Face (MTV award winner), JerryJemmott, John McLean, Leslie Hunt, Ezra Brown, James Singleton, Reginald Veal, Simon Lott, Alvin Fielder and many more. In addition to his trio Alford can be seen playing with jazz vocalist Rhonda Richmond and jazz-rock composer/ keboardist Will Thompson's group WATIV. He is featured on both their last recordings. Currently, Alford is based out of New Orleans, Louisiana where he is active in a flourishing creative music scene. He fulfills his passion for music education by teaching various music classes and lessons in the community. Alford teaches jazz guitar at the University of Southern Mississippi.
