stuff first. Cover songs require a Mechanical
License that can be obtained from the publisher
of the music or the HFA at www.songfile.com.

no matter how short it is — you must either obtain
a license to use it or you must remove it from
your recording.

8. Why do you use MP3 files?
There is significant controversy about all the
various digital file formats and players available
today. Consumers are frustrated when files they
buy for one digital player cannot be transferred
to another. MP3 files are the only file format
guaranteed to play on every digital music player.
We thought you might like that.
9. Are the MP3 files copy-protected?
MP3 files are an open format. They are not copy
protected, which means that they can be ripped
to a CD, moved to another player, emailed to a
friend, or put up on a web site for download.
We think that is a good thing. After all, your
CDs aren’t copy protected either. As an
independent artist, your main goal is to become
known to the widest audience possible. An open
format makes that easy.
10. Can my fans listen to samples of my
music before they make a purchase?
Yes, sample clips are automatically created for
any track that is over 1:30 in length when your
album is uploading to DigStation. Anyone can listen
to these samples before they purchase your music.
All tracks that are less then 1:30 will not received
a full sample clip; these setting are automated
by the server and cannot be adjusted. |
