“Everyone wants to be the sun that lights up your life, but I’d rather be your moon so I can shine on you during your darkest hour when your sun isn’t around.”
-Unknown
Inspired by the courage with which people maintain the struggle against overwhelming odds, the Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band delivers gripping tales of triumph over adversity—some haunting, some surreal, others based on real-life issues. Their music has been defined as “music that matters” and their captivating live performance has been described as “beautiful, raw emotion in audio form.” (-Cindy Lucas, WBSP Radio)
The Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band is a husband-and-wife team comprised of singer/songwriter Sheila Kirsten Hughes on guitar, piano, cello, and fiddle, and sound engineer Chris Hughes on double bass, electric bass, percussion, sequences, and keyboards. The pair met more than a decade ago when they literally collided while street skating in Downtown St. Petersburg, Florida.
In 2007, the Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band’s song “Let It Rain Down” off their latest CD, Perspectives, received an “Honorable Mention” in the 2007 Singer/Songwriter Awards, a London-based international songwriting competition. They were also a Semifinalist in the 2007 Independent Music World Series, a Disc Makers competition. Plus, they were one of just 25 artists selected for the 2008-2010 Florida State Touring Roster by the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs.
In May, 2008, the Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band teamed up with JWG Proudctions to create their very first MTV-style music video for “Different People,” a song that shines the light on society’s forgotten, misunderstood, and unwanted.
In August 2008, Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band was nominated into the SouthernArtistry Registry of acclaimed artists by the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs.
In most recent news, Liz Garvey of Willie Nelson's Peace Research Institute (PRI) website, www.willienelsonpri.com, contacted the Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band in June, 2008 and asked if the band would consider covering "A Peaceful Solution," a song Willie wrote with his daughter Amy Nelson early one morning on his tour bus. Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band completed a unique version of the song and video in August, 2008. Willie Nelson's PRI site will soon be featuring the Sheila Kirsten Hughes Band's version of their song on the homepage of their website. They've already screened the video, and here's what they had to say:
"This is very exciting, Sheila. Your piece for peace is so beautiful. The high production values present your gorgeous voice in its most supportive setting. The instrumentation and the mix is a tour de force. The video made good use of the bus visually. Thank you so much for producing such an incredible music video for Willie's Peace project. We look forward to featuring you.Thank you for giving so much to Willie's peace project. -Liz" |
